EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  Master's Degree with a strong emphasis on Educational Administration and Supervision required.  Must hold a State Board for Educator Certification Mid-Management/Administrator/Principal Certificate, 5-year temporary Principal Certificate, or be eligible for the five-year temporary Principal Certificate.  Must complete a Principal Assessment approved by the SBEC.  Three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, preferably with Windham, is required.  Successful work experience as a Counselor with Windham School District is preferred.

PARTIAL SUMMARY OF THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Accepts responsibility for the organization and management of the Education Program on the unit assigned.  Utilizes allocated resources of the Windham School District (WSD), contracted college/university and the Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in developing the most effective educational and vocational training programs for offenders.  Conducts periodic supplies and equipment inventories and submits requisitions for any supplies and equipment needed during the current school year for all educational programs.  Works with staff to implement and evaluate the curriculum materials.  Maintains and utilizes appropriate information systems and records necessary for placement of students in education programs.  Develops, maintains, and utilizes appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives and accountability measures.  Assists in establishing and clarifying short and long range goals that are educationally sound and administratively feasible.  Assumes responsibility for the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the assigned educational program.  Interviews staff applicants and participates in selection of personnel as directed by WSD Policies and Regulations.  Observes classroom performance for the improvement of instruction.  Maintains adequate and accurate documentation upon which recommendations for employee termination or retention are based.  Evaluates the personnel under his/her supervision, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent, Regional Assistant Superintendent, or a designee.

The Superintendent of Schools may elect to appoint a qualified applicant to the position according to WSD Selection System Policies and Procedures after the required position posting.  The appointment process may involve document screening, interview, or a combination of both.
