U.S. Sen. John Cornyn recently took a tour of training programs at the San Antonio Food Bank, accompanied by WSD Superintendent Dr. Clint Carpenter, WSD Dominguez State Jail Principal Teresa Craiker and senior staff from TDCJ.

During the visit, Cornyn was able observe the partnership between TDCJ and Windham offering training to offenders. He saw offenders preparing for future employment while giving back to area communities. Offenders from the Dominguez State Jail in San Antonio and the Torres Unit in Hondo participate in these training programs.

"The culinary arts program and warehousing training supported by WSD and TDCJ provide opportunities for offenders to learn new skills in high demand in the workforce," WSD Superintendent Carpenter said. "The commercial environment that the facility offers gives offenders real and meaningful skill training. Sen. Cornyn was interested in learning about jobs available to offenders through this training, and he was complementary of the close working relationship between TDCJ, Windham and the San Antonio Food Bank. We appreciate the time he took to learn more about education and training programs for Texas offenders."
