Master's degree from an accredited college or
university and Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Librarian or
Learning Resources Specialist certificate OR
Bachelor's degree and (SBEC) School Librarian (or equivalent) certification OR be eligible for an Emergency Permit OR Probationary Certificate.
Emergency Permit eligibility: (1) Currently be certified with
SBEC based on a Bachelor's degree, (2) Have completed twelve semester credit hours
directly related to the basic competencies required of school librarians, and
(3) Have two creditable years of classroom teaching experience, as defined in Chapter
153, Subchapter CC of the SBEC Certification Handbook.
Certificate eligibility: 1)
Currently be certified with SBEC based on a Bachelor's degree, and (2) Applicant
must submit a letter from a college, university, or educational service center
indicating that they will be accepted in the Librarian probationary
certification program. Letter must be
submitted with application.
Excellent oral and
written communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and instructions
clearly and concisely.
Proficiency in computer skills necessary to organize and
maintain library files, data, inventory, and reports.
Knowledge of library
policies, procedures, and regulations.
Ability to remain
current in library practices and developments as relates to educational and
instructional research and materials applicable to school library programs.
Knowledge of library and
Ability to use existing
and emerging technologies to support and assist staff and students.
Serve as instructional resource consultant and materials specialist to
principals, teachers, and offenders.
Supervise and train offender aides, librarian assistants and
library clerks for assigned units.
Develop and maintain a balanced collection appropriate
to the needs of the assigned offender population and select library books, periodicals, and materials to be purchased for
Advise principal of library
material, equipment, and instructional needs of the faculty for assigned units.
Maintain, organize, and supervise the circulation of library
materials; recommend unit library
procedures and regulations for assigned units.
Assist as needed in library inventories and prepare, maintain,
and report appropriate unit records on circulation, inventory, and newspapers,
and magazines for assigned units.
Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information
received in the performance of the job duties.
Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible
manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices
for Texas Educators.
Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in
completing assigned job duties.
Perform duties in a professional manner through daily,
punctual attendance at location of work assignment.
