The mission of the Windham School District is to provide appropriate educational programming and services to meet the needs of the eligible offender population in TDCJ and reduce recidivism by assisting offenders in becoming responsible, productive members of their communities.

The Windham School District (WSD) was established by the Texas Legislature as an entity separate and distinct from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), with the Texas Board of Criminal Justice (TBCJ) serving as the Board of Trustees for the WSD. It is the policy of the Board that the WSD shall provide academic, as well as career and technology education, to eligible offenders incarcerated within the TDCJ.

 



State Representative Congratulates Graduates


 

Texas House Representative James White recently gave the GED commencement speech at a Windham School District ceremony at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston. He presented each graduate's certificate and offered personal congratulations, emphasizing the importance of education behind prison walls.





Judith Dullnig is presented the Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award.


 

This honor (Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award) is referred to as the Judy Burd Award in memory of Judy Burd, WSD volunteer coordinator and lifelong educator.
