WSD Appreciates its Board of Trustees & Their Service!
From the Superintendent:
Thank you, WSD Board of Trustees!
The Texas Board of Corrections serves as the Board of Trustees for the Windham School District: Sitting (l. to r.) are Vice-Chairman R. Terrell McCombs, Chairman Dale Wainwright, Secretary Eric Gambrell; Standing (l. to r.) are Derrelynn Perryman, Thomas G. Fordyce, Thomas P. Wingate, E.F. “Mano” DeAyala, Larry Don Miles, and Patrick O’Daniel.
School Board Recognition Month is highlighted in January, but Windham School District thanks the Texas Board of Criminal Justice for serving year round as its Board of Trustees. As advocates of Windham schools, educators, and students, these nine governor-appointed volunteers guide one of the largest – and most unique -- school districts in Texas.
The Board defines policy, sets budgets, and works to ensure academic excellence and accountability within WSD. It has been dealing with the challenges of these responsibilities since 1969, meeting more than 300 times as a Board to guide the success of correctional education.
WSD Board of Trustee Patrick O’Daniel joins an Ellis Unit life skills presentation in the Cognitive Intervention/CHANGES class of teacher Debbie Morris.
You can find Board members entering Texas prisons to meet educators, tour facilities, speak at weekend graduation ceremonies or join staff development meetings to encourage educators. They talk with students about classroom success, and they meet with lawmakers to inform them about the value of education services for offenders. The support of WSD’s Board of Trustees is invaluable at every level.
WSD thanks its Board members for sharing expertise, energy, and valuable time to help transform lives through education.
