Provide voice to sign and sign to voice interpretive services in an educational setting utilizing appropriate forms of sign languages. Performs duties in support of assisting students in educational achievement.
High School diploma or equivalent
Certified as a sign language interpreter
Sufficient receptive and expressive signing skills
One year wage-earning experience as a sign language interpreter preferred.
Communicate in a professional manner.
General knowledge of language development preferred.
Knowledge of deaf culture and ability to interact with deaf community preferred.
1.Interpret instructor's lectures, comments, and questions for deaf/hard-of-hearing students in a mainstream classroom setting.
2.Interpret students' questions and statements.
3.Interpret for school functions as assigned.
4.Adapt signing level and system to the communication needs of the students.
5.Follow the code of ethics for certified interpreters.
6.Participate cooperatively as a member of the educational team.
7.Follow schedule as determined by the principal of assignment.
8.Willing to improve signing skills through in-service, workshops and/or additional classes.
9.Perform other duties as assigned.
