Provide voice to sign and sign to voice interpretive services in an educational setting utilizing appropriate forms of sign languages. Performs duties in support of assisting students in educational achievement.

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent
Certified as a sign language interpreter
Sufficient receptive and expressive signing skills

Minimum Requirements for Non-Certified Applicants:
One year wage-earning experience as a sign language interpreter preferred.

Minimum Requirements for Certified Applicants:

Special Knowledge / Skills:
Communicate in a professional manner.
General knowledge of language development preferred.
Knowledge of deaf culture and ability to interact with deaf community preferred.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:

1.Interpret instructor's lectures, comments, and questions for deaf/hard-of-hearing students in a mainstream classroom setting.

2.Interpret students' questions and statements.

3.Interpret for school functions as assigned.

4.Adapt signing level and system to the communication needs of the students.

5.Follow the code of ethics for certified interpreters.

6.Participate cooperatively as a member of the educational team.

7.Follow schedule as determined by the principal of assignment.

8.Willing to improve signing skills through in-service, workshops and/or additional classes.

9.Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Information:
The only acceptable application is the Supplement dated 02/19 and the State of Texas Application dated 09/09. These may be obtained through the Windham School District Human Resources Department or the Windham School District website at www.wsdtx.org.

Applicants who do so are requested to fax **ONLY** their "State of Texas Application for Employment", Applicant Contact Information form (HD-100) and verifiable typing score if required. Applications faxed to another fax number will not be accepted. It is the applicant's responsibility to verify receipt of all faxed documents by calling (936) 291-5322. WSD employees and all applicants with a current WSD application on file must submit the "State of Texas Application for Employment" and all supporting documents for each posted position to WSD Human Resources Office by the closing date and time.
