Windham School District (WSD) participated in a tour of Kiewit Offshore Services Ltd (KOS), a leading fabricator for the oil and gas industry, located in Ingleside, Texas. Those attending the tour included Representative James White; Director and Deputy Director of Texas Workforce Investment Council, Lee Rector and Raul Ortiz, respectively; WSD Superintendent, Dr. Clint Carpenter; Director of Manufacturing, Agriculture and Logistics, Bobby Lumpkin; Director of Reentry and Integration, April Zamora; Director of Parole, Pam Thielke; WSD Workforce Specialists Rex Rhone and Charlene Moriarty; WSD Vocational Specialist, Ted Watts; Texas Association of Business Board member and Criminal Justice Reform Committee, Penny Rayfield, and Kiewit Regional Recruiting Manager Brian Robinson.
Not only do tours like this bring confirmation to Windham that its vocational programs adhere to hiring standards of companies like KOS, but they also show outside stakeholders the effectiveness and value of WSD vocational classes.
WSD awards third party industry certifications to its students, which gives validity and credibility that can be verified by future employers like KOS. Many of the businesses that employ former WSD students are members of the Texas Association of Business (TAB), who also sent representatives on the tour.
