Title I Program

Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Programs

A supplemental Title I program is provided for educationally underachieving students who are 20 years of age or younger. These students are enrolled in a three-hour Title I class in addition to another regular program of instruction. The Title I teacher works collaboratively with the other teacher to reinforce and/or reteach literacy and math concepts. Interactive computer equipment and computer-assisted instruction are used in the Title I program to provide remediation of basic skills and encourage participatory learning.

WSD uses Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training & Recruiting funds to support professional development activities for teachers and principals. Title II funds are also used for class size reduction at two facilities that house the TDCJ Youthful Offender Program for offenders ages 14 to 17.

Teach for WSD

WSD in Images

Each day WSD correctional educators pass through prison gates across Texas to work with men and women incarcerated within TDCJ.
Offenders often experience academic success for the first time in a Windham classroom.
Students at the Huntsville “Walls” Unit strengthen writing skills during a literacy class.
Auto specialization students in a West Texas prison learn auto maintenance skills, preparing themselves for future employment as professional mechanics.
Vocational and academic skills are integrated in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, such as this Small Engine Repair class in Huntsville, Texas.
