The Power of Literature
Windham School District (Windham) maintains libraries within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Through the library, patrons are able to prepare themselves for successful reentry into their communities by utilizing the knowledge and resources available. In school year 2021-2022, Windham operated 84 libraries in TDCJ facilities across the state. Windham library staff also coordinate and monitor donated libraries. In order to assist patrons with locating books, the district implemented digital catalogs for search support.
Library Assistants
Windham library assistants promote the use of libraries through orientations, poetry contests, book reports, art contests and essay contests in the campus libraries. These staff members also maintain and provide current newspaper and magazine subscriptions to offer patrons additional reading materials.
