Windham School District, College Partners Honor Women Graduates

Huntsville, Texas — Graduates from Windham School District (Windham), Central Texas College and Texas Woman’s University were honored Friday, April 24, during a historic combined graduation ceremony held at the Patrick L. O’Daniel (O’Daniel) campus in Gatesville. The ceremony marked the first time graduates from all three institutions were recognized together and represented Texas Woman’s University’s inaugural graduation as a Windham and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) postsecondary partner, celebrating a broad range of academic and workforce achievements.

Windham graduates earned high school equivalency certificates, career and technical education certificates in Cosmetology and Horticulture and Urban Farming Technician, as well as graphic design apprenticeships through the U.S. Department of Labor. Graduates from Central Texas College received Associate of Arts degrees, while Texas Woman’s University graduates each earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.

“Moments like this highlight the impact education can have on students’ lives,” Windham Superintendent Kristina J. Hartman said. “Through strong partnerships, the district continues to provide pathways that help students move forward with purpose. We look forward to the continued expansion of college and career readiness initiatives in the future.”

Leadership from TDCJ, Windham and participating higher education partners attended the ceremony, reflecting the collaborative effort required to support student success statewide. Dr. Angela Bauer, Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas Woman’s University, served as the keynote speaker, emphasizing the transformative power of education.

Windham School District provides technical assistance and manages contracts for the administration of postsecondary academic and career and technical education programs, partnering with colleges and universities across Texas to strengthen educational pathways. A major highlight of the ceremony was the approval of additional postsecondary programming at the O’Daniel campus. During the event, April Zamora, Director of TDCJ’s Rehabilitation and Reentry Division, acting as the agency’s signatory authority, formally approved the Postsecondary Education Program Advisory Committee’s decision to authorize the University of Houston–Clear Lake to operate and provide a Master of Arts in Sociology program  at the campus in the near future. This approval represents a significant advancement in higher education access and further supports reentry readiness.

The combined ceremony not only recognized individual academic accomplishments but also symbolized a shared commitment to encourage students and graduates to continue pursuing their educational and career goals.
